Parent and child participate together in each of these weekly, 50 minute classes. Students learn to sight sing, read music, and play the piano in each of these comprehensive music courses. Ear training skills are developed through singing, solfege (Do, Re, Mi syllables), and by-ear keyboard playing. In addition to learning notes and chords, music theory is reinforced through arranging, improvising, transposing and composing. Students play ensembles with other class members at the keyboard and on rhythm instruments. By the end of each program, students are reading music and playing with both hands and have learned to play in six different key signatures.
Students in the Mighty Musicians and Keyboard Kids classes are learning essentially the same concepts,
however older classes are able to move more quickly. The grade listed refers to their grade when starting piano lessons.
Once students complete any one of these course tracks, they advance to the Young Artist program, which is four semesters long.
